      Hi Steve It improved a lot. I’m a lot happier with the flow through my tablesaw. The dust, the really fine stuff is completely gone now. I haven’t measured it with a flow meter but I’m sure it’s more flow than the old thick HF dust bag. I’m glad I bought it, would buy again. Thanks for watching! Pete

      Thanks! I bought the gcode license key because of the type of laser the mecpow is. I think they have different versions on the lightburn website depending on the type of technology the laser is , like diode versus fiber laser. The gcode version has done everything I have needed. If you bought a mecpow I’m sure you will get along fine with the gcode brand of sw. Good luck! Pete

    I just bought this Craftsman Planer today and ran across this video while in the parking lot at Lowes, I'm a woodworker of 8~ years. I'm working on an old rocker bench where I wanted to strip the previous paint jobs and finish off each piece of the bench. I killed myself trying to sand all of it off, and the stain I put didn't handle well the first time, so I wanted to strip it back down again. This wasn't the first time I struggled to strip an old finish off something. So I decided to invest in a thickness planer for the job. I figured it'd be something cool to use in the future, not just for removing finish, but smoothing out rough cut lumber (sometimes I build stuff out of cheap whitewood and construction lumber to safe money, or go for a certain aesthetic). I didn't wanna break the bank, nor scour the internet searching for a used one. So I went with this Craftsman.I found it to be an excellent planer. It perfectly planed each piece I fed through it. This is my first planer, I never owned or operated one prior. I'm gonna be blunt; I pretty much turned the dang thing on and started feeding wood through it out of the box. I cut about 20 pieces of California redwood with ease. I wasn't worried about them being perfect, I just wanted them nice and down to bare wood. Everything fed through the tool nice and smooth. It definitely didn't burn up or cause any issues for me. Despite your experience and video, I want to say to other hobbyist and first-time buyers, I wouldn't get scared of this Craftsman. I think it's a perfectly capable tool. It's probably gonna be a long time before I use it again, I don't have a need for a planer very often. If I were planing hundreds of pieces of wood and using the thing every day, I might invest in something beefier. I have a feeling it will last me a very long time. I'm still a Craftsman believer, I have a few Craftsman tools (even some from around 10~ years ago) that are still kicking. Also, both Lowes and Home Depot are pretty awesome about returns. If anyone ended up getting a dud like this, they will refund you without hassle.

      Hi Linda, I have! It was a bit of a learning experience for me. I made a triangular picture frame and wanted to see if I could quickly cut out the shape on the laser cutter rather than on my table saw. Well, I learned that I needed to use the acrylic sheets that have a covering paper or colored plastic covering. For me I kept getting burning and overly melting edges if I used general acrylic sheets with clear plastic protection on it. The ones with the brown paper covering and the light blue plastic sheet seemed to work well for me. It took me three tries to dial it in, I cut a 4mm thick sheet at 30% power with speed of 30-40mm/sec, seemed to work for me. Hope this works for you. Thanks for watching! Pete

    What makes these the best speakers??? What is the frequency range? How many watts can the foam handle before distortion?

    • @PetesGarageWorkshop
      @PetesGarageWorkshop 4 місяці тому

      Hi Chess, Totally unscientific but I needed tunes in a bug infested metal warehouse at my job. These speakers sound great to me, especially paired with an old subwoofer I had laying around. I don’t know the frequencies or the wattage but it’s loud enough. I recommend building a set, experiment with the placement of the driver and the size of the foam board. I’m planning on adding a 2 by 4 piece and seeing if that can give me better low end without the need for a real subwoofer. Thanks for watching! Pete

    • @PetesGarageWorkshop
      @PetesGarageWorkshop 5 місяців тому

      Hi, I had to look up coroplast, it’s the material yard signs are made out of right? I would imagine this laser cutter could cut it, might take a bit to dial in the power and speed to get a good edge without too much burning/ charing. I did cut foam with it, that foam that came with it and it really smelled bad. I started at 10% power at 1200mm/sec and bumped up the power to 20% and it cut ok. The problem was when it hit a glued patch. If I need to cut foam I’ll get a nice sheet from Michael’s. Good luck! Pete

    Thanks for this honest review. I'm debating between the Craftsman and the Dewalt. Price is a big consideration. I'm a small hobbyist, so I'm thinking the Craftsman will do, but I've heard all over the internet about the snipe issue. Just seems silly that the consumer has to improvise to get around the issue and that Craftsman doesn't address it at the product level. I'm still undecided at this point.

    Loved the vibe. Can you discuss your experience with tolerancing and materials on these entry level machines?

    • @PetesGarageWorkshop
      @PetesGarageWorkshop 8 місяців тому

      Great question on tolerance! Every time I print with a new spool I print a calibration cube. It’s a thingiverse model, just a one inch cube I can gauge my printer with. Luckily I have had really good results with the Sunlu printer. It usually prints to less than a tenth of an inch, but this also depends on the filament. Sometimes I reduce the size of the thing I’m printing my 1% in the slicer and reprint the model. I use this process on the Ender especially. For some reason I haven’t figured out yet the X axis expands and contracts a bit more, around 0.2-0.3 inches. I’m not using the printers for super fine printing but it’s good to know how accurate the set up is. For both of the printers I have used pla, petg with no problems. They seem to hold tolerances, or predictable variations pretty well. I tried abs on the Ender with poor results. I couldn’t figure out the cracking and irregularities so I kinda abandoned the effort. Thanks again for the comment and questions! Pete

    I use my 3D Printer more and more. The more I learn to design the more useful 3d printing for the shop comes. It is crazy how you start changing your thinking to integrate printing stuff for projects, tools, tool fixing, and organization. It is especially fun when you start thinking "How can I design and print something to solve that problem". I am currently working on a magnetic bandsaw fence where the main supports are 3dprinted. Hopefully, I'll finish and get a video on it in the next few weeks.

    It sounds ok, but that's just it. I guess the best thing is that it does not take up much useable space and being Flat they should not collect as much dust and debris as a typical speaker box. However if you value the quality and richness of the sound (Not Volume) you might want a better set of speakers. There are a lot of Used speaker boxes from Stereos that don't work anymore that you can probably get at a low cost or Free and save some good useable stuff from ending up in the landfill.

    • @PetesGarageWorkshop
      @PetesGarageWorkshop Рік тому

      Hi Joe, My table saw is a Jet jwts-10 inch. It’s from the early 90s, I bought it off Craigslist in 2005 for $400. The extension wings are stamped sheet metal, the miter gauge is fairly rugged, I think it’s factory included. I tend to not use it in favor of a panel jig for cutting boards, just my work flow. The saw is just the right size for me and my one car garage. I like it but have struggled over the years with dust collection. I stuffed the gaps and metal taped the seams to reduce dust but it really needs an over the blade vacuum system. It’s on the list of to do! Other thing is the splitter mechanism does not move with the blade so using a dado blade requires I remove it. Not too big of a deal. Best upgrade I made to it was not to the saw but to the dust collector attached. Shameless plug for my dust collector video! It may not get all the large chips but it really gets the fine dust. Good luck! Thanks for watching! Subscribe if you think I earned it. Pete

    I think you just over worked it. These are consumer hobby tools, they probably will work perfectly fine for years if you only use it for a few boards at a time and let it sit for a while. That is what hobbyists doing small projects at home will do. Once you start pushing stacks of hardwood trough it for hours or start using it in commercial applications you are just pushing it beyond what it was designed for. In the end you do get what you pay for. Endurance and especially heat management on these tools costs money and are the things skimped on these things because they aren't supposed to be used continually. As long as you are realistic about what your usecase will be, cheap tools can be a good choice.

      Hi! I hope you have better luck than I did. Let me know how it works out, maybe I got a lemon or I did something wrong. Thx Pete

      Hi Bin, I used three mm plywood for my build. I had a couple scraps of it laying around. The dimensions depend on how big you want to make the deer head. I suggest printing out the templates and cutting them to size and laying it out to see how many pieces of wood you need. Good luck! Thanks for watching! Pete

    Should joint gace first then edge so there's a flat face against the fence .and seems like it works alot better as a jointer than planer since it's 8" . I jave a dewalt 13" planer already so the 8inch jointer aspect Would be good addition to my shop . And it's lightweight thanks for the honest full review

      Hi Joe, If you’re looking for a space saver this little jointer may be the one for you. I did end up buying an old delta jointer and a Dewalt DW734 planer. I’m doing more table builds and need a more rugged jointer and planer. Thanks for the comment and please subscribe if you think I earned it. Pete
